Hubungan antara Komunikasi Interpersonal dengan Bullying Verbal di Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP)

This study aims to determine the relationship between interpersonal communication and verbal bullying behavior in eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 20 Malang City. This study uses a quantitative correlational method with a sample of 159 students selected using random sampling techniques. The research instruments are an interpersonal communication scale based on Devito’s theory (2016) and a verbal bullying scale based on Olweus’ theory (1996), both of which have been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis uses the Spearman correlation test with the he’p of SPSS version 25.0. The results of the study show that there is a significant negative relationship between interpersonal communication and verbal bullying (ρ = -0.244; p = 0.002 <0.05), which means that the higher the students’ interpersonal communication, the lower their tendency to engage in verbal bullying. The results of this’study emphasize the importance of developing interpersonal communication skills as an effort to prevent verbal bullying in schools.
