Abstract. Using a descriptive approach, this quantitative study aims to describe the ability of mathematical and reading literacy and analyze the correlation pattern of both in class VIII junior high school students. This study involved five VIII classes (180 students) from 11 classes in UPT SPF SMP Negeri 3 Makassar in the even semester of the 2022/2023 school year. Data were collected through math literacy tests and reading literacy tests. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that students' mathematical literacy was in the primary category while reading literacy was in the advanced category. In addition, an asymmetrical correlation was found between mathematical literacy and reading literacy, namely: students with good mathematical literacy tend to have good reading literacy; students with good reading literacy do not always have good mathematical literacy; students with low reading literacy skills tend to have low mathematical literacy as well. However, students with low math literacy do not necessarily indicate weakness in reading literacy. The implications of these findings are significant and point to the urgent need for targeted interventions to improve both types of literacy, with recommendations to focus on holistic and integrated teaching strategies.

Alimuddin Tampa Asdar Ahmad Ilham Minggi Nur Inayah Soleha Copyright (c) 2024 Alimuddin Tampa, Asdar Ahmad, Nur Inayah Soleha https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-10-15 2024-10-15 8 2 126 139 10.35580/imed.v8i2.4567 Analisis Kesalahan Basic Error Siswa dengan Menggunakan Scaffolding Pada Materi Eksponensial http://journal.unm.ac.id/index.php/IMED/article/view/4272
This study aims to analyze the types of basic errors made by students and describe the appropriate form of scaffolding to assist students in solving exponential problems correctly. Creative thinking is considered a crucial skill that can enhance students' ability to tackle mathematical challenges in innovative and effective ways. This meta-analysis synthesizes results from 25 independent studies, with a total sample of 359 high school students meeting the inclusion criteria. The findings of the meta-analysis indicate that creative thinking has a significant positive impact on mathematical problem-solving abilities, with an average effect size (Cohen's d) of 0.75 (95% CI [0.60, 0.90]). The heterogeneity analysis reveals significant variability among the included studies, indicated by Q(24) = 55.84 and I² = 57.1%. Moderator factors such as teaching methods, educational context, and student characteristics were analyzed to further understand the variation in findings. Studies employing project-based learning or problem-based learning methods exhibited higher effect sizes (d = 0.85) compared to conventional teaching methods (d = 0.65). Additionally, students with high motivation levels and those in supportive educational environments demonstrated better outcomes in mathematical problem-solving (d = 0.90 and d = 0.80, respectively). These findings underscore the importance of integrating creativity-promoting approaches in high school mathematics curricula. Approaches such as problem-based learning and project-based learning can serve as effective strategies in enhancing students' creative thinking abilities.. Therefore, the findings of this study are expected to provide guidance for educators and policymakers in designing more effective and innovative teaching strategies.
Hamda Hamda Copyright (c) 2024 Hamda Hamda https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-09-21 2024-09-21 8 2 236 246 10.35580/imed.v8i2.5837
