Ability to Read Arabic Texts for Class XI Students: Study at Madrasah Aliyah Darud Da'wah Wal Irsyad (DDI) Attaufiq Padaelo in Barru Regency

Abstract

This study aims to assess the level of Arabic text reading ability among eleventh-grade students at Madrasah Aliyah Darul Dakwah Islamiyah Attaufiq Padaelo Barru, and to analyze the factors influencing their reading abilities. The research method employed is descriptive quantitative. The study population consists of 58 eleventh-grade students at Madrasah Aliyah Darul Dakwah Islamiyah Attaufiq Padaelo Barru, with a sample of 26 students from class XI.2 selected randomly. Data were collected through tests and questionnaires. The results of the study indicate that the Arabic text reading ability of eleventh-grade students at Madrasah Aliyah Darul Dakwah Islamiyah Attaufiq Padaelo Barru falls into the category of sufficient, with a percentage of 57.88%. The factors influencing students' reading abilities can be categorized into external and internal factors. External factors include the home environment, where there is limited time spent on reading at home and minimal support from family members; and the school environment, where students have a lack of habit of visiting the school library. Internal factors include intellectual aspects, with a lack of understanding of the subject matter, as well as psychological aspects, where students exhibit low motivation to read, encounter difficulties, and feel bored while reading Arabic texts.
