Problems of Arabic Speaking Skills among Madrasah Tsanawiyah Students in Maros Regency

Abstract

The sample in this study consisted of a total sample of 51 students, consisting of 4 classes (2 female classes and 2 male classes). Data were obtained by administering questionnaires filled out directly by students and conducting interviews with Arabic language teachers. The questionnaire data were analyzed using the formula P = F/N x 100%. The results showed that students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Hj. Haniah Maros experienced many problems that hindered them from speaking Arabic fluently. These problems include students feeling: 1) Arabic is difficult, 2) Nervous when speaking Arabic, 3) Lack of vocabulary, 4) Vocabulary does not increase, 5) Not interested in using Arabic as an everyday language, 6) Not paying attention to Arabic grammar, 7) Not practicing speaking Arabic, 8) Lack of media, 9) School does not conduct Arabic speaking activities, 10) Lack of evaluation by teachers, 11) Lack of encouragement to speak Arabic. The problems faced are caused by two factors, internal factors and external factors. Internal factors include: 1) Lack of interest and motivation of students, 2) Vocabulary, 3) Mental and readiness of students. External factors include: 1) teachers, 2) school.
